Vasia
this is my artsy site of the week http://www.pbase.com/vasia
this is the site of a good friend of mine. she is an incredible artist and she is currently using anemic looking, cookie cutter site to host her work and i was hopping to create her a real site for the final project for this classs, matt leave me a comment if that’d work……..here are two paintings i own of hers…..a self portrait and pope JPII

You’re right! Her work is outstanding and her site completely fails to do it justice. How are your website building skills? Can you convince her to start keeping a blog if she’s not already? You can completely modify a theme in Blogsome to keep it consistent with the rest of what you build for her. I don’t know how, but I’ll figure it out soon. My friend mark did this: http://thegamebox.blogsome.com/ and this: http://digikid.blogsome.com/ so I know it can be done. All the cool artists keep blogs. A good place to start looking at this (and at artist’s websites in general) is http://www.drawn.ca/. There are so many great artist’s sites linked to the Drawn! site (which is itself a blog).
So yeah, I think it is a great idea to do a site for her. She needs & deserves it, and it is a great way to get practice with the artist/client relationship without having the stress of real money being at stake. And it will make an excellent portfolio piece. As I’ve said many times before, the only thing a prospective employer cares about is can you prove to them that you can do the work? Having a website that you’ve built that has a happy client because of your work goes a long way toward that.
